Lascaux, France

On Thursday, September, 12 1940, four boys stumbled across what seemed to be an ordinary cave. And to this day, at first glance, you would still think that this cave in Lascaux, France was an ordinary cave. Until you walked inside. These markings were like animation because the hunts were drawn on the wall in a way that was like a comic strip. They started at the left, and continued the story of the hunt to the right, until the prey was captured. These pictures were used to tell stories.

Emile Cohl, (1857-1938) France, makes his first film, FANTASMAGORIE. This film is considered by many to
be the first animated film. Cohl was well-known for his comic strips before he went into animation. He made 250 animated films from 1908 -1921.
Emil Cohl combines live action and drawn animation together in his film, CLAIR DE LUNE ESPAGNOL (SPANISH MOONLIGHT).
